I have discussed about 1st hurdle for EVs in India, i.e. low range and how it can be taken care of.
Now , I will discuss about the 2nd and one of the vital hurdle for EVs in India – “Absence of infrastructure like widely distributed charging stations” .
Absence of widely distributed charging points
Just like widely distributed fuel filling stations are absolutely important for petrol, diesel and CNG/LPG vehicles. In the same way, widely available charging stations are equally important for electric vehicles’ (EVs) growth in India.
Government organizations as well as private organizations have already started to take initiative to develop charging stations in various parts of India, like :
- Tata Power have opened Mumbai’s 1st electric vehicle charging stations in August 2017 at Vikhroli. More such initiatives are on its way from Tata Power.
- Community Charging Stations by Plugin India .
- NBCC (a Government agency) have taken initiative to develop 150 charging stations across India in next 12-16 months.
These initiatives are great to have, but we need a faster development of wide spread charging stations for adoption of EVs in India.
At the present pace , it will be hard to achieve the goal of 2030.
Wrap Up
So, to have more structured and planned development of wide spread charging stations, we must have multiple startups those will focus in charging stations and EV infrastructure development.
Along with the Government and existing private companies, if the startups also take initiative, the 2030 goal for total EV-fication is not hard to achieve Please share your views in the comments.
